So, it's still snowing outside and I have to remind myself over and over again that it's March already and not the middle of January. On Thursday I'm going to the zoo with my students for an Easter egg hunt. Well if it keeps snowing it would be better to hide white eggs. ;) Today I talked with the kids about wearing proper clothes to our amazing adventure and one of them suggested that the Easter bunny could borrow Santas sleigh. The kids don't seem to have a problem with trudging through snow to get to the prize. Of course they are only six years old and easily excited. My co-workers all suggested to just cancel the whole thing but I think we all need to toughen up a little bit. ;) If it gets too cold for me I will just go to the petting zoo and cuddle up to the sheep.
Hey, I’m still alive. After coming back from Cologne I was feeling really depressed. I don’t really know why but I had a hard time getting myself out of it. So I just took some time off and as soon as the school year was finished I went to visit my best friend and then my sister, my little niece and nephew. I stayed with them almost 5 weeks and after I came back I had to start preparing myself for the new school year and the 23 little souls I was about to take ;) It’s the fifth week now and it’s the first time that I am responsible for almost all the subjects of my class (except PE and Music). I like it. It’s a lot more stress but I don’t have to depend on somebody else to support me in my opinions about how to do certain things and that is really nice for a change. I used to be paired with a real bitch. Life is good. Yippie.
I went for a hike with my students today. So we walked to the train station and most of them had never been in a train before. It was a huge adventure for a 9 minute train ride. We got to our destination: a beautiful big lake with lots of trees and plants and animals and insects to discover. Everything went really well until this big swan decided to just stand on the hiking trail. We tried everything but it couldn't be bothered to move and started hissing. We could even see the teeth. Some kids already began crying because they realised that we had to go that way and couldn't just go back. So I was standing there holding a big umbrella, ready to fight the "wild beast", while one after one the kids quietly walked to the other side. I probably looked really ridiculous but my heart was beating fast because I couldn't predict how the swan would react to the children moving. Well they all had something to talk about at home and we learned a few new things about swans.
So today I was one of three teachers who were watching the kids outside during the break and of course some girls where falling all over each other where I was standing. They were standing before me crying with food still in their mouths and I was only thinking: Why me again? One of the girls kept crying about her shoulder and told me that she broke it. I just thought: You are 7, I'm 30, I know better. And than I said the beautiful sentence: "Of course you didn't break it, everything will be alright in a few minutes." Well the paramedic I called about 10 minutes later because she went totally white thought different. They still don't know whether they have to perform a surgery or not but some bone in her shoulder is definitely broken. Thank god the mother was pretty cool about it all. I'm still really freaked.
So yesterday we had this memory guy at school. Apparently he has done a lot of TV productions and so on but unlike some of my colleagues I had never heard of him. Anyway now it's over 24 hours later and I still remember the last 10 presidents of the USA whose names I learned within 3 minutes. That's great because I can use it in soooo many ways in my everyday life ... NOT. :D I have to admit though the guy was really interesting and I'm pretty sure I can use some of his techniques with my students. And I didn't have to pay for it so ... yippee.
Later in the evening I should have been going (is that right?) to my weekly step aerobic class. But an hour before start one of the women called to tell me we would be doing a little bike tour instead. How was I supposed to know that little meant about 25 km? I haven't been on a bike in almost 9 months. My ass is killing me. So I'm off now to go and sleep on my stomach.
